This weekend, Gettysburg will be honoring our nation’s heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice. From 11:30 AM to 12:15 PM on Monday, May 26th, a Civil War Memorial Day Commemoration will be taking place at the Pennsylvania Monument on the battlefield. This event will teach visitors about the history of Memorial Day and feature various Civil War era songs and poems. At 2:00 PM, the 158th annual Memorial Day parade will march from Lefever Street to Soldiers National Cemetery, where a ceremony will follow at 3:00 PM. The parade route and cemetery are both within a walking-distance of the bed and breakfast. At 7:00 PM, the Lincoln Fellowship of Pennsylvania will be hosting the opening ceremony for its “100 Nights of Taps” program at the Pennsylvania Monument. This event will feature several speakers and a performance of “echoing Taps,” where the piece is performed in a round by buglers scattered nearby. Following the Memorial Day event, a performance of “Taps” and a brief ceremony will take place at that location every evening at 7:00 PM until Labor Day.
